Jack Heap (Sake) Professional DJ
A regular DJ on the Birmingham Dubstep/D&B scene regularly playing at such venues as The Custard Factory, The HMV Institute, The Hare & Hounds and having a DJ residency at Subway City, Jack is eager to share his skills of being a disc jockey with other young musicians interested in the field. With most DJ's using digital mixing equipment such as Serato or Abletonlive, Jack specialises in using vinyl. With this form of mixing becoming more and more rare, it was an obvious choice to revive this skill through teaching with vinyl, requiring more of a hands on approach when playing a DJ set. Jack's skills alternate between two related genres, Drum & Bass; and a new emerging genre Dubstep. Mixing with these two quite different, but also quite similar styles is the main output of his teaching. These two categories are set out between two speeds 140bpm (beats per minute) to 185bpm. These are the set speeds of music he will be mixing with. Lessons are revolved around beat matching skills, harmonic mixing (identifying related keys between tracks), building DJ sets, distinguishing set speeds between the genres & general equipment set up and care. Students can divulge into the particular style they wish to mix with and eventually build the knowledge, technique & confidence they need to put together a DJ set.
